Hexagon Purus completes expansion of German hydrogen infrastructure product site

Hexagon Purus has completed the expansion of its German manufacturing site for the engineering and production of hydrogen infrastructure products.

The facility in Weeze, Germany, has expanded from 11,000m2 to 16,000m2, and will house the production of hydrogen distribution, refuelling and stationary storage systems.

By expanding, Hexagon Purus has said it has approximately doubled the annual production capacity of its Type 4 high-pressure hydrogen solutions.

It comes as part of much bigger growth plans from the Norwegian company. In September 2023, it opened a new German hydrogen cylinder production site in Kassel, as well as a site in Maryland US, in January 2023.

Michael Kleschinski, Executive Vice-President Mobility & Infrastructure at Hexagon Purus, said, the company continued to take a market share in the transportation and storage of hydrogen “of all colours” due to the competitive total cost of ownership (TCO) of its solutions.

“We expect this trend to continue as green hydrogen gradually replaces grey and higher capacity improves our ability to meet growing demand,” he added.

In December (2023), Hexagon raised around NOK 1bn ($95.8m) from investors Mitsui, Hy24 and Hexagon Composites to support its global capacity expansion.

The company also reported an “all-time high” quarterly revenue of NOK 380m ($36.4m) in Q3 2023, taking its revenue for the first three quarters of the year to NOK 954m ($91.4m).
