Jamie Carragher has taken to Twitter to react after a significant rumour about Roberto Firmino emerged from Liverpool on Friday.

What’s the story?

Well, the Sky Sports pundit – who made 737 appearances for Liverpool – has now shared his thoughts amid talk that Firmino will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season.

A number of esteemed outlets – such as The Athletic – have reported that the Brazil international will leave Liverpool on a free transfer this summer when his contract expires.

The Telegraph and Sky Sports have also claimed this will happen.

After hearing the rumour, Carragher wrote on Twitter: “If the reports about Firmino leaving at the end of the season are true, I do think it’s best for all parties. He’s a Liverpool great and will be remembered for being part of one of the best front threes we’ve seen #BOBBY”

The South American has amassed 352 appearances in total for Liverpool following a £29m move from TSG Hoffenheim in 2015.

Firmino has scored 107 goals and provided 78 assists in those outings, helping Liverpool win the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and also the FA Community shield.

Firmino leaving Liverpool is the right decision

As sad as it will be for Liverpool fans to lose a favourite of theirs, this is the correct decision.

Jürgen Klopp has been accused of being too loyal to some players this season and keeping them beyond their best, such as Jordan Henderson – for example.

While Firmino enjoyed a strong first half of the campaign, he is far from the player he used to be, and given the fact he turns 32 in October, it would be best to search for a fresher option who can provide more of an impact.

Furthermore, the Brazilian earns £180,000-a-week, which is a significant salary and one Klopp could spread across two or three quality signings this summer, as the midfield in particular needs improvement.

Despite these facts, Firmino has been a superb servant to Liverpool across the last eight years, and he will be remembered as a cult hero at Anfield.
