Inter Milan are reportedly close to signing Marcus Thuram on a pre-contract agreement, with the French international set to snub the likes of Newcastle United and Tottenham.

According to CalcioMercato, the Nerazzurri have been in constant dialogue with Thuram’s team since the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with Inter now close to signing the 25-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach superstar for free at the end of this season.

Thuram has been one of the best attackers in Europe this season with the forward bagging 14 goals in all competitions for the Bundesliga giants, and as a result, Premier League interest has been high in the Parma-born superstar, particularly from Newcastle and Spurs.

CalcioMercato have already reported that both English sides are keen on Thuram, with the Italian publication stating that Newcastle were actually leading the race for the attacker at one point. However, Inter now seem to have taken action over the weekend to wrap up a deal.

With the summer window fast approaching, Thuram will be one of the hottest properties in the market based on his form this season and his age. And for Inter, beating Premier League opposition for the forward’s signature is a massive sign of intent from the Serie A giants.

Indeed, the Nerazzurri will be keen to return to top form next season and to bring the Scudetto back to the blue half of Milan, and signing the likes of Thuram is a big step in the right direction for the San Siro side, with Newcastle and Tottenham missing out big time.

Thuram’s style of play and goalscoring record this season all indicated that a move to the Premier League was on the cards this summer. However, Inter have stepped up their efforts to sign the forward on a pre-contract agreement, and the deal is a blow for the likes of Newcastle and Tottenham.

Lauded by Wolfsburg’s sporting director as ‘world-class’, Thuram would have been an excellent addition for the Premier League. Yet with Inter taking action, the forward now looks set for a move to the country of his birth, where the attacker could become a superstar for the Italian giants.
