NFL insider points to Miami Dolphins making blockbuster move for Lamar Jackson

Will Lamar Jackson play for Baltimore Ravens or feature elsewhere in the 2023 season?

The soon-to-be free agent is still in contract stalls with the Ravens and he’s been brought up in possible trade scenarios this off-season.

While the Ravens can still use the franchise tag on him and try to negotiate a long-term deal with him, they may be forced to trade him due to his contract demands.

ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington spoke about Jackson on Get Up and thinks that the Miami Dolphins would make the Super Bowl if they acquired him.

“Lamar Jackson to the Dolphins would be the most obvious slam dunk in the world. He is a South Florida guy. He would be running in Mike McDaniel’s system with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. This team would be on their way to the Super Bowl.”

Darlington added that he thinks Jackson going to the Dolphins makes more sense than anything else right now.

“I don’t know if they’ll ever be able to get wrap their head around it and move on from Tua and do something for Lamar. But I’m just telling you right now this makes more sense to me than anything else when we talk about Lamar Jackson going to a football team.”

If Jackson were to join the Dolphins, he would be an upgrade over their current quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa.

The only problem is, the team may be committed to Tua. While it’s no secret that Tua was banged up last season with injuries, GM Chris Grier seems comfortable enough to eventually extend Tua.

Via Alain Poupart of SI.com., Grier said that the team wouldn’t be afraid to do anything long-term with Tagovailoa despite his injuries.

Grier said:

“I mean, I can’t lie and say no, but it’s not something that it’s gonna make us afraid to do something long-term at all. The one thing he’s had he’s been banged up but he always comes back and bounces back and plays hard and performs. Excited for his future.”

The team has until May 1 to decide whether or not they will pick up Tua’s fifth-year option for the 2024 season. If they elect not to pick up his option, he will become a free agent next season.

It’s very unlikely that Lamar Jackson will be a Dolphin this season, but he could suit up for another team in 2023.
