Greater Victoria’s football club has entered into a partnership with one of the world’s oldest sporting programs in an aim to accelerate the growth of its players.

Pacific FC (PFC) announced a new partnership with VfL Bochum of the Bundesliga on Tuesday (May 7). The deal allows for both clubs to share resources and expertise on how to grow both on and off the soccer pitch.

“This partnership breaks new ground and will further close the gap from Canada to the one of the best footballing nations in the world,” PFC president Josh Simpson said in a statement. “We are proud to build this bridge to VfL Bochum for our players as well as our operating staff to learn and further their sporting careers. The Bundesliga is without question one of the best leagues in the world and we are excited for this step.”

The Bundesliga is the top flight of German football and Bochum was first established in 1848.

The German squad’s connection with PFC will include the potential for player transfers, coaching development and programming for youth.

Both clubs will seek to create joint football events, such as school camps, in support of players from both countries.

Front office staff from both clubs will be sharing industry knowledge and best practices on topics like fan culture, matchday experience and public relations strategies.

Bochum’s CEO said Pacific FC will play an important role the team’s internationalization strategy in the coming years.
