Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Indian dressing room after the Men in Blue’s heartbreaking defeat in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final on Sunday (November 19) against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India failed to end their 10-year ICC Trophy drought as the Pat Cummins-led side lifted the trophy.
Modi was present at the stadium for the big match and handed over the trophy to Cummins in the presentation ceremony alongside Australia’s deputy PM Richard Marley.
Star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja revealed that PM Modi visited the Indian dressing room after the match in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. Jadeja called it a motivating moment for the players and also hailed the support given to the team by fans.
“We had a great tournament but we ended up short yesterday. We are all heartbroken but the support of our people is keeping us going. PM @narendramodi’s visit to the dressing room yesterday was special and very motivating,” wrote Jadeja.
Talking about the match, India had a poor outing, with the bat managing to make a score of just 240 after Australia won the toss and decided to bowl first despite half-centuries from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul as well as a quick-fire 31-ball 47 from Rohit Sharma.
Travis Head played a knock for the ages with a knock of 137 to become the 7th player in history to score a century in a World Cup final to ensure a comfortable six-wicket victory for Australia.
Jadeja had a brilliant campaign as he took 16 wickets in 11 matches, which is the best tally by an Indian spinner in a single edition of the World Cup in history.
Jadeja has played in the World Cup on three occasions but is yet to be part of a team that lifted the trophy after failing to make the cut in 2011.
